Hey, I’m Afu. I’m an afro house/ afro tech DJ based in Nairobi, Kenya. I look forward to being a part of this competition.
How did you get into DJing?
I was influenced by a family friend who taught me how to play at the age of 14.
What DJs have had the most influence on you?
Black Coffee, Shimza, Eric Prydz
You’re being put to death, but you can listen to one last track before you die. What track do you choose?
Deadmau5 – Strobe
What’s the easiest thing about being a DJ?
Being able to play music you love to people
And what’s the hardest thing about being a DJ?
Going through hundreds of tracks on a daily basis to find what suits you.
Best thing about Dance Music culture right now?
Diversity and inclusion. There are lots of genres/sub-genres that weren’t as popular 10-15 years ago.
Worst thing about Dance Music culture right now?
Drug abuse. It’s a sad reality to know that many people would not attend events if it wasn’t for drugs.
Why should listeners vote for you?
I bring a different sound to the table, my tracks are unique to my region and are pretty unorthodox to the mainstream market.
