Tell us a bit about yourself:
My name is Ana, but people in the music scene know me as Mvngo (mango but with a “v”). I’m a Romanian-born and Montreal-based dj and producer with a passion for house music. Summer flows throughout my veins and I’m obsessed with bringing the heat to the dancefloor. With residencies at clubs throughout the world such as NewHaus and cie in Montreal, RockBar in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and the recently winner of the 2022 Yacht Week Croatia Residency competition, I definitely know how to navigate the different sub genres of the House spectrum and can bring high energy as well as seriously good vibes to all my sets! Having only started DJ’ing live in 2020, I’ve already made a name for myself in Montreal securing appearances at major venues including Muzique, Terasse Ciel Rose, Nhau Bar, Cave mtl, Ecole Privee and many more.Growing up in a musical-inclined family I learned to play the piano from a young age and, over the years, have developed a keen ear for everything that gets your body moving. A producer in my own right, I started writing and producing my own brand of house and tech in 2021 and have already been fast tracked for two releases later in 2023. While based in Canada I have an everlasting love for Europe and draw much of my sound and inspiration from the club and dance music scenes from places I’ve visited.
How did you get into DJing?
I got into Djing a year before COVID hit, but really started investing myself full time during the pandemic. 2-3 months into practicing full time, I wanted to start playing live, but didn’t know how to go about it so turned to social media. I had a filmmaker background so I decided to combine the 2 and post everything on reels/tiktok. Surprisingly, people started liking my content and I got a lot of tranction around it. Throughout the messages I received a lot of club owners/promoters contacted me to play at their venues and that’s how it all started! From then, I’ve grown so much as an artist, started producing and connecting with amazing people in the industry throughout the world!
What DJs have had the most influence on you?
First and foremost, Sam Divine. She is a fighter for female rights in this male driven industry and an amazing example to all the women out there trying to make it in the music industry. She just works so hard and has done so much that I have to mention her first. Secondly, i’d say the man that has been influencing my style and music since his hit “Deep End” busted the charts: John Summit. His whole energy is pretty similar to mine and I love the fact that he doesn’t take anything really too seriously. He’s a go with the flow and good vibes type of person which I admire and resemble myself. Lastly, I’d say Carl Cox. He’s one of the pioneers of the industry and kind of an inspiration for all up and coming artists. His love for house and techno music is uncomparable to anyone else and he obviously won a place in my top 3 inspirations.
You’re being put to death, but you can listen to one last track before you die. What track do you choose?
Honestly, my music taste is constantly changing, but if i’d have to chose right now it would definitely be Escape by Kx5, Kaskade, Deadmau5 and Hayla. This song is amazing, from the vocals to the composition itself; I’m really thinking it a masterpiece!
What’s your favourite thing about Ibiza?
I’ve never been to Ibiza, but I can’t skip this question, because from all the stories that I’ve heard and it becoming my dream destination Ibiza just holds this magic that everyone should know about.
What’s the easiest thing about being a DJ?
I think everything about being DJ is easy id you’re passionate enough. It’s an easy and beautiful job that shouldn’t even feel like work! You’re simply vibing with the crowd and playing what you think is appropriate for the place and people you play for!
And what’s the hardest thing about being a DJ?
I think the hardest thing about being a DJ is the uncertainty of your situation. You really have to work hard and push for your opportunities as a DJ, it’s not a job where things get handed to you, but it’s what makes it challenging and fun in the end! No matter what you have to put in a lot of work and I’m here for it!
Best thing about Dance Music culture right now?
The feeling of being at home regardless of who you are or where you came from. I know it is the foundation of the culture, but to this day it never ceases to amaze me the beauty of this united feeling that dance music brings you.
Worst thing about Dance Music culture right now?
Worst thing, however it’s slowly changing now, is the inequality in the industry. It’s a known fact that, to this day, women and gender non-conform people have fewer opportunities than men. Just look at some of the lineups of the most famous festivals; most of the artists are men! Like mentioned before, fortunately this issue is starting to get more attention and there’s more opportunities being created for all the less represented genders!
Why should listeners vote for you?
Listeners should definitely vote for me, because Ibiza flows thru my veins! It’d be a dream come true to open for, none other than; Claptone, in my dream destination Ibiza!! I know I can bring a final summer heat to the dancefloor in Pacha this summer and voters won’t regret it at all!! Remember, no matter who you vote for; you’re always where you’re meant to be a.k.a. at the masquerade closing party in Ibiza listening to house music!
