Tell us a bit about yourself:
Hi there, I’m Ray Naldo from Zimbabwe & I’m a multi-genre Dj but i mainly play Afro House / Afro-Tech House. I am also a Resident Dj on Move Ibiza Radio, Move Miami Radio & Loud Creative Radio UK.
How did you get into DJing?
I got into Djing because of my love for music. In my high school days I would spend most of my time wearing headphones ‘bopping my head’ to dance tunes, then my brother introduced me to turntables & I instantly felt at home.
What DJs have had the most influence on you?
Bob Sinclair, Nora En Pure, Black CoffeeI picked these 3 acts because they all brought a different touch to dance music. Each was able to blend their ‘cultural sound’ into modern Dance music & inspired a lot of newer Djs & Producers.
You’re being put to death, but you can listen to one last track before you die. What track do you choose?
Dennis Ferrer – Hey Hey [Vocal Mix]
What’s your favourite thing about Ibiza?
Text here (in plain italics, not in bold)
What’s the easiest thing about being a DJ?
Being able to read the crowd & giving them the right environment to allow them to go on a spiritual and emotional journey through sound.
And what’s the hardest thing about being a DJ?
Picking the few tracks to play out of a huge list of amazing music.
Best thing about Dance Music culture right now?
I love how different cultural sounds are being fused into Dance Music & how so many sub genres are popping up catering for almost all cultural backgrounds. This is opening up spaces for newer & existing acts to co-exist & create amazing ideas.
Worst thing about Dance Music culture right now?
Even though the expansion of Dance music is good, the downside is that some amazing underground/undiscovered acts aren’t & wont be noticed.
Why should listeners vote for you?
Music to me is a language that crosses all barriers [culture, language, age, class, ethnicity] & has the power to unite people from all ends of the earth. My goal is to break through these barriers, unite & allow people to express themselves, while making beautiful memories on the dancefloor through music.
